Bison wrestling moves up in rankings while Monk earns WWC awardFARGO – North Dakota State moved to No. 22 in the Division I Intermat top 25 wrestling rankings, up from No. 24 last week.
The Bison are the highest-ranked team from the Western Wrestling Conference in a poll based on NCAA tournament strength. Penn State, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois hold the top five spots. NDSU made its first appearance in the USA Today top 25 poll, but fell out after losses to Minnesota and Eastern Michigan.
Meanwhile, junior Steven Monk was named the WWC’s Wrestler of the Week after placing second in the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational last weekend. Monk, ranked seventh nationally, improved to 13-1 at 165 pounds and has beaten two top 10 opponents.
