Weather Talk: More sunny November days than average in recent years

A sunny day is defined (for record-keeping purposes) as a day with between 70 and 100 percent of possible sunshine.

November, on average, is the cloudiest month, with an average of only seven sunny days. But we have had a run of sunny Novembers lately. This past month, there were 10 sunny days. In November 2011, there were 16 sunny days. November 2010 had 13 sunny days. November 2009 had 17 sunny days; 2008 had 13; 2007 had 10; and 2006 had an amazing 19 sunny days.

Some of these Novembers have been wetter than average and some drier than average. Some have been warmer than average and some colder than average. The trend of added November sunshine seems to be a stand-alone trend.
