Letter: Another kind of preventable deathWhile reading the Nov. 29 editorial “New ban will save North Dakota lives,” I found a term in the last paragraph somewhat humorous.
The fact that 800 North Dakotans die every year makes smoking the state’s top cause of “preventable death.”
I turned back to the front page of the same paper and read the chart below the fold that points out that on average for the past 12 years, there are 1,288 abortions performed every year.
Seems to me that abortion is North Dakota’s top cause of preventable death. An adult chooses to smoke; a child doesn’t choose to be aborted.
