Talk show host leaving 101.9 Talk FMFARGO – Tom Becka, talk show host and program director for 101.9 Talk FM, is leaving the station in several weeks, he told The Forum late Thursday.
Becka will be returning to Omaha, where he has family, to pursue other professional opportunities. Becka was the afternoon drive talk show host for KFAB in Omaha before moving to Fargo.
Becka’s departure comes just several months after Talk FM switched to talk radio from its former classic rock format in March.
The station received a 1.6 share in the spring 2012 Arbitron radio ratings, which was tied for 12th in the local market. However, Becka said the low ratings did not accurately reflect the time the station had been talk radio, and that the low ratings didn’t influence his departure.
He expects the fall 2012 ratings to be more favorable for the station, he added.
“The station has grown every month,” he said. “My experience with Radio Fargo-Moorhead was great, and I’m proud of what we accomplished here in a short time. To say I’m leaving because of ratings would be erroneous.”
