VIDEO: Rep. Rick Berg gives farewell remarks

GRAND FORKS – In farewell remarks on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives Wednesday, Rep. Rick Berg, R-N.D., urged his colleagues to set aside partisan politics while addressing fiscal challenges facing the country.

Berg, who lost a Senate race to Heidi Heitkamp, expressed gratitude for the chance to represent North Dakota in the House the past two years.

“I am not sure what lies ahead,” he said, “but I’ll say this: It’s going to be great spending much more time back home in the great state of North Dakota.”

Berg stressed the importance of cooperating on difficult fiscal issues.

“I ran for Congress because I believed, and continue to believe, that we must create an economic climate that brings stability and certainty to private sector job creators,” he said.

“My faith in the democratic process is unwavering, and I truly believe that America has bright days ahead,” he said. “I am hopeful that in the days, weeks, and months ahead we can finally come together, not as Democrats and Republicans, but as Americans who are concerned about the future of our country to tackle the challenges we face.”
