Fox anchor Andrea Larson moving to Valley News Live next year

FARGO – A familiar face in television news will soon be making the move to a rival station.

Andrea Larson, who has anchored the 6 and 9 p.m. newscasts at Fox since 2007, will be moving to Valley News Live after the first of the year, both stations confirmed Tuesday.

Larson has worked at Valley News Live before, from 1999 until 2007.

“Everyone at Fox has treated me very well through the years, which makes it hard to leave,” Larson told The Forum on Tuesday. “But, having said that, I’m very excited to return to a station that I called home for nearly eight years.”

Ike Walker, news director at Valley News Live, said he could not confirm what position Larson would hold but that it would be a daytime shift and it would be “on-air.”

“That’s really all I’m going to say about that so far, so stay tuned,” Walker said, adding that his staff was “thrilled” to have Larson back.

Jim Shaw, Fox’s news director, who hired Larson from Valley News back in 2007, said he understood that Larson would be working a 9 to 6 p.m. shift, probably in an anchor position.

“She did a great job here in so many capacities, and so we will miss her enormously,” Shaw said.

Fox has begun a national search to find a replacement, Shaw said, adding that Larson is leaving on good terms.

“I have no ill feeling about that whatsoever. That’s part of the business, and they made a great move,” he said.

For Larson, working the day shift after working late nights at Fox for so long will be a pleasant change.

“I’m getting evenings back with my family, and that’s important,” she said.

Larson’s last day on Fox will be Dec. 12.
