Mo. man arrested after high-speed chase on I-29WAHPETON, N.D. – A Missouri man is in custody after a high-speed pursuit involving a reported stolen vehicle ended on Interstate 29 Thursday morning.
Robert W. Smith, 43, of Oregon, Mo., was arrested by South Dakota authorities as the chase that began at North Dakota mile marker 39 continued 11 miles into South Dakota, according to a release from the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
Speeds reached a reported 105 mph on the interstate before a South Dakota deputy deployed a tire-deflating device near the border, the release said.
Authorities say the vehicle involved was reported stolen from the Dickinson area on Wednesday. Officials are also investigating a similar incident, also Wednesday, involving a pursuit of a stolen vehicle with Missouri plates in the Dickinson area.
