Fargo man sentenced for corrupting minor

FARGO – A Fargo man accused of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl outside an African market here in June was sentenced on Tuesday to prison time and probation, according to Cass County Court records.

Bashir Abdi Noor, 26, was given two years in prison and five years of probation after pleading guilty in September to corrupting a minor, a Class C felony, court records show.

Noor was originally charged with Class AA felony gross sexual imposition after police say he pulled the victim into a concealed area near the Somali Business Center at 122 23rd St. S. at around 4 p.m. and sexually assaulted her. That crime carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years in prison.

The charges were later lessened because the state prosecutor said it would’ve been difficult to prove Noor’s use of force.
