Fight between workers on jail roof leads to assault charge

ST. CLOUD, Minn. — A man didn't have far to go to jail after allegedly assaulting another man while they worked on the roof of a central Minnesota jail.

The men got into an argument Monday while on the roof of the Stearns County Jail. One man is accused of hitting the other with a rake used for spreading rocks.

Sheriff's officials arrested a 43-year-old St. Cloud man and booked him for investigation of second-degree assault.

The 23-year-old victim suffered a cut to his forehead and told investigators he had a tooth knocked out. Paramedics treated him.

Sheriff John Sanner says the men were temporary employees of the company hired to re-roof the jail.
