Harvesting of crops in N.D. nearly completeBISMARCK — Favorable weather conditions have allowed farmers and ranchers in North Dakota to complete most harvesting activities.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture says in its weekly crop, livestock and weather report that the harvesting of sunflower was virtually complete at 96 percent. This is slightly behind 99 percent last year, but ahead of the five-year average of 89 percent.
Topsoil moisture supplies are rated 11 percent very short, 35 percent short, 53 percent adequate and 1 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies are rated 26 percent very short, 37 percent short and 37 percent adequate.
Pasture and range conditions were rated 31 percent very poor, 34 percent poor, 22 percent fair and 13 percent good.
