Deck fire damages Fargo apartment buildingFARGO – A deck fire damaged an apartment building at 1102 1st Ave. N., in downtown Fargo early this morning.
The fire was reported about 5:30 a.m. and extin-guished quickly after fire-fighters arrived.
The fire caused moderate damage to the exterior of the building near the deck, with the value of the dam-age estimated at $2,000-$5,000, according to the Fargo Fire Department.
Deck fires are an increas-ing problem in Fargo and improper ashtray use is often at fault, the Fire Department said.
Potted plants and plastic containers like coffee cans are examples of improper ashtrays that should never be used, the Fire Depart-ment said.
