Colter named American Family agent of month

DJ Colter, Fargo, has been named District 386 agent of the month by American Family Insurance for outstanding sales in October.

He has been an agent with American Family since 2004.

MSUM alumni board elects new members

Minnesota State University Moorheads Alumni Foundation has elected five new members to its board of directors.

Those elected are Mary Jo Richard (1986), Terry Soine (1970), John Thorvilson (1978), Bob Bowlsby (1975) and David Daugherty. They will serve three-year terms.

Richard is a certified public accountant and audit partner at Eide Bailly. She has worked in public accounting for more than 25 years.

Thorvilson is a partner with Moquist Thorvilson Kaufmann & Pieper and he has been active in the CPA profession for more than 30 years.

Soine spent three years in the U.S. Army with the 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War and after completing a degree at MSUM he taught for two years in Hope, N.D., and then worked in educational administration until he retired.

Bowlsby is commissioner of the Big 12 Conference. He previously directed the Stanford University athletics department and also was chief administrator for the University of Iowa Department of Athletics for 15 years.

Daugherty is director of research for Arizona State Universitys Morrison Institute for Public Policy.

Hanson-Runsvold earns national recognition

Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, has received the 2012 Pursuit of Excellence award from the National Funeral Directors Association. Only 164 firms from across the world received this recognition.

Pursuit of Excellence Award recipients adhere to the highest ethical and professional standards and provide unsurpassed service to families and communities.

In addition to this award, Hanson-Runsvold was inducted into the NFDA Hall of Excellence. Created to recognize a consistent display of service excellence, NFDA-member funeral homes are inducted into the Hall of Excellence upon receiving their 10th Pursuit of Excellence Award.

Hanson-Runsvold is under the direction of third-generation funeral director John D. Runsvold. He and his wife, Cyd, own the business together, with Cyd serving as marketing director.

Teiken recognized as innovative leader

Brent Teiken, chief executive officer of Sundog, Fargo, was named the winner of the Leaders Leading Leader Award from the Marcus Buckingham Co.

The award recognizes 25 innovative leaders from across the country who inspire excellence in others with proven results while standing out from the crowd.

Teiken was nominated by more than 40 Sundog team members to receive the honor.

As a way for others to learn from Teikens success, the leadership development and productivity tool StandOutM will highlight his best practices used at Sundog.

Fargo Travel Leaders earns national award

The Travel Leaders agency in Fargo has earned the national Agency of Excellence Award.

Only 25 agencies receive the award out of several hundred Travel Leaders franchises throughout the United States. The award recognizes leadership and business success.

Cynthia Tyo and David Ekman are owners of the Travel Leaders agency in Fargo.

Metro Top Producers elects new officers

Metro Top Producers, a professional networking business idea exchange group that meets bimonthly at the Fargo Holiday Inn, has elected new officers. Those elected are: Kriss Burns, Volt Technical Resources, president; Jeannie Camarillo, Anne Carlsen Center, vice president; and Heath Johnson, Agent Alliance Group, secretary/treasurer.

Marvin Windows wins family business award

Marvin Windows and Doors has been named one of the winners of the 2012 Family Business Award from Twin Cities Business magazine.

The awards honor five family-owned businesses and the value they add to Minnesotas economy and overall quality of life.

The company was founded in 1904 by George Marvin. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren now own and operate the company that has headquarters in Warroad, Minn.

Discovery Benefits recognized with award

The Better Business Bureau of Minnesota and North Dakota has recognized Discovery Benefits of Fargo with its 2012 BBB Integrity Award.

Award recipients were selected by a panel of judges based on the companys demonstration of the BBB standards. Companies receiving the award have demonstrated integrity in all areas of their operations.

Family Life Services earns accreditation

Family Life Services, doing business as Family Life Credit Services, West Fargo, has been accredited by the Council on Accreditation.

The COA identifies providers that have set high performance standards and have made a commitment to their constituents to deliver high-quality services.

Reach Partners receives WOB certification

Reach Partners Inc., Fargo, has received official status as a North Dakota Certified Women Owned Business from the North Dakota Women Owned Business Certification Center.

WOB certification denotes that a woman has majority ownership and control of a business entity.

The business, owned by Anita Hoffarth, provides project management and event planning services for health promotion, health care organizations and health and wellness projects across the region.
