Park River-F-L defeats Ray in ND Class B state volleyballMINOT, N.D. – The balance came back to back the Park River-Fordville-Lankin offense.
The Aggies used a big match-ending attack Thursday to rally past Ray 23-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-12 in the quarterfinals of the North Dakota Class B high school volleyball tournament.
After the PR-F-L offense struggled through three sets against Ray’s scrappy defense, seven different Aggies had at least one kill in the final set.
There was no magical solution to the Aggies’ offense. “We did everything exactly the same (as in the first three sets),” PR-F-L senior hitter Kirsten Johnson said.
But what the Aggies had was more people contributing to the attack at the end.
“Through districts and regionals, Kirsten was our go-to hitter,” PR-F-L coach Sherry Currie said. “I think we started to rely on her. They (Ray) started to key on her. And all of a sudden, our other girls started swinging aggressively.
“That had been typical for us up to tournament time. We have five girls with over 100 kills for the season.”
The Aggies’ offense got rolling early in the final set, as they jumped to a 10-3 lead with Johnson getting three kills and Taylor Lehar and Sadie Vold two each two to spark the fast start. “That (start) was huge,” Currie said.
Ray got no closer than five the rest of the way.
