Cobbers advance to Sweet 16 in Division III women's soccer tournamentWAVERLY, Iowa – Sarah Rounds scored three goals to lead No. 14-ranked Concordia to a 3-2 victory against California Lutheran on Sunday in the second round of the NCAA Division III women’s soccer tournament.
“She was fantastic today,” Cobbers head coach Dan Weiler said. “She got one (goal) really early and that set the tone. She was really looking to score. She had some really great finishes.”
Concordia (17-3-2) advances to the Sweet 16 with the victory. The Cobbers are set to play No. 3-ranked Washington (Mo.) University (18-1-1) in the next round. Concordia advances to the Sweet 16 for the third time in four seasons.
“That was certainly the goal to make as deep a run as we can,” Weiler said. “Our goal is to make it to the Final Four and see what happens.”
Rounds scored two goals in the first half, including one in the opening minute. She added her third score at 60 minutes, 39 seconds to give the Cobbers a 3-1 lead. Rounds has 13 goals this season.
“That was obviously a big goal,” Weiler said.
Taylor Will scored two goals for Cal Lutheran, which ends with an 18-5 record.
