Cobbers rally past Lake Forest in NCAA Division III tourney

WAVERLY, Iowa – Concordia rallied from a one-goal halftime deficit Saturday to keep its women’s soccer season alive.

The Cobbers netted two second-half goals to earn a 2-1 victory against Lake Forest (Ill.) in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament.

“It’s a great first game to get out of the way, especially going down like we did in the first half,” Cobbers head coach Dan Weiler.

Sophomore Liz Robinson and junior Gina Weiss each scored goals for the Cobbers. Weiss scored the game-winner in the 82nd minute on a cross from Emma Ekdahl.

“Our girls really had to dig in,” Weiler said.

Concordia (16-3-2) faces California Lutheran at 5 p.m. today with the winner heading to the Sweet 16.

“I feel the matchup is good,” Weiler said. “We have to perform better in the first half (today).”
