Favorite Things: Larson shares her favorite online discount sites

FARGO – I love pretty things – pretty clothes, pretty food, pretty décor. I also like to find quality pretty things for a reasonable price.

Some of my favorite online shopping websites offer the fashionable items at prices that I can afford. Most require a free membership to participate in sales.

OneKingsLane.com

I’m always looking to reinvent the 850 square feet I live in. One King’s Lane allows me to daydream about decorating a house while purchasing goods to spiff up my apartment.

A unique element of One King’s Lane is its vintage and market finds. Clicking through the books, antique furniture and art is more like taking a stroll through a flea market.

The site has no shortage of modern décor, furniture and gifts, too. The holiday accents sale that ended Saturday had holiday picks for every home style – earthy and modern candleholders, silver serving trays, gold bowls, vintage-y cake pedestals and much more.

The site is also members-only and has flash sales.

Yoox.com

YOOX Group is every fashionista’s dream. Browse discounted clothing, shoes and accessories from famous fashion houses like Chloe, Gucci, Prada and Versace.

I bought a See by Chloe leather jacket from Yoox years ago, and I still love it.

YOOX is an investment-piece site – you’ll find handbags, shoes and clothing that you’ll keep forever.

JCrew.com

I peruse J.Crew’s sale section online at least twice a week. The company’s fun, lively take on classic American chic is addicting.

While not a discount site itself, J. Crew’s sizeable sale section has deep discounts on its trendy apparel, shoes and accessories.

Sign up for J. Crew’s mailing list, and you’ll be alerted when new items are added to the sale. It seems that there’s almost always an extra percentage off sale items and free shipping, too, if you’re on the lis

TheFoundary.com

The stylish know about The Foundary. The home goods website has limited-time sales on everything from furniture to art to charming tree trimmings.

I like how clean the website appears, and the items picked for sales are ultra-stylish and trendy. The art sales are my favorite.

Bluefly.com

I’ve shopped Bluefly ever since I discovered that they usually have a great selection of discounted Joe’s Jeans.

The shoe selection on Bluefly’s website is fun to browse, and features well-known designer names like shoe gods Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choo. I like to check out the “Under $100” and “Under $200” sections for shoes I can actually buy.

The site’s watch selection is phenomenal, with picks from Cartier, Breitling, TAG Heuer and Chanel. Most of the watches cost more than $1,000, so I like looking at them for inspiration.

Bluefly is equal parts discounted, yet expensive designer goods and affordable contemporary goods.

Gilt.com

Flash sales and members-only websites are popular, and nobody does it quite like Gilt Groupe.

Gilt Groupe covers the gauntlet – discount designer clothes, accessories and shoes for men, women and children; home goods; food and wine; and vacations.

I’ve purchased darling toys for my boyfriend’s niece, designer denim, sunglasses and Martha Stewart cookbooks. The site’s food and wine section, Gilt Taste, tempts me daily with its fresh seafood and large selection of sweets.

Don’t let the term “members-only” deter. Signing up is easy, and once you do, you’ll receive daily emails containing that day’s sales.
