Letter: Letter displayed a lack of feeling

I had to shake my head at the recent letter from Ryan Schmoll. He states he wants to “fully understand what’s happening with the locked-out employees of Crystal Sugar.” His letter makes it clear to me that he doesn’t understand nor does he want to. The one thing he does seem to understand is that sugar factory workers have a higher hourly wage than he does, and while he has to contribute to his health insurance, they do not, and he doesn’t like it.

I wonder if he understands these factories run 24/7? Does he understand employees give up their weekends, holidays and most evenings with their families? Does he understand that most of the scab employees live in other states? I wonder if he even understands that his wage and benefit package is based on prevailing wages from this area?

Lastly, to find joy in your neighbors’ (they are obviously not your friends) hardships is neither American nor Christian.

People who don’t feel punish those who do.
