Letter: Lunch changes won’t work at all

I agree with the kids on this one. I feel that serving good choice options for school lunches is good. However, I feel making everything wheat-based and taking away proteins and carbs are not good for the majority.

My kids are in sports, and they are at school from about 7:10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., if not later, depending on what’s going on with their sport. My kids don’t eat half of what’s being served, and they are always hungry. My kids are on the school lunch program, and I can’t afford to send much extra money with them.

Before, they at least had the option of a peanut butter sandwich. Now they don’t have that option, so they go hungry. Also, some of the kids have lunch at 10 a.m., and they are not done with school until 3:45 p.m. Then they may have an after-school activity that starts right after that.

My kids aren’t heavy, but pushing things they don’t like will push them to eat more garbage.
