Fashion in Focus: Rosy cheeks glow for fall makeup

Rosy cheeks glow as one of the hottest trends for fall makeup.

Flushed faces appeared on the fall/winter runways for designers Michael Kors and Christian Dior, but it’s a simple look to try at home, too.

The femininity of ballerinas inspired Dior’s looks. Models wore soft, natural makeup, complete with perfect rose-pink shades of blush.

Kors cited more of a bright, sporty flush – like a day on the ski slopes or coming in from the brisk cold – for his inspiration.

I love this trend because it’s universally flattering on all skin shades. Rosy blush instantly brightens your face and adds a lovely, healthy glow. The makeup is very fresh and natural, and you can wear it for day or evening.

The look is complemented by shimmery, pale eyes and skin and bright or soft pink-stained lips. Top it off with a soft cat eye and perfectly groomed brows.

We created “ballet femininity” on our model Isabel with the help of makeup artist Kellie Hanson at Sephora in Fargo.

Kellie applied two of my all-time favorite products, Nars “Orgasm” blush to her cheeks for a peachy rose glow and Stilla shimmery eye shadow in “Kitten” to her eyes. The blush highlighted her cheeks and gave her a beautiful pink flush. The eye shadow created a soft brightness to her eyes.

A new product that I recently discovered and absolutely love is Nars “Copacabana” liquid illuminator. Kellie applied it to our model’s cheeks and corners of her eyes to highlight and add shine and a dewy look to her face.

Nars raspberry lipstick in “Damage” with a hint of raspberry lip gloss by Makeup Forever in color S16 adds some subtle drama. This lipstick is the perfect color to brighten up her face.

We wanted to create a soft “Audrey Hepburn” cat eye, so Kellie used Sephora retractable eyeliner in black. She polished off the look with “All Nighter” setting spray by Urban Decay to add to the overall glow to her face.
