Injured Shanley running back Stasch could play in title gameFARGO – Starting Fargo Shanley running back Danny Stasch is on the mend following a lower sprain of his right ankle suffered on Saturday.
The 6-foot, 160-pound sophomore, who also plays free safety, practiced with the team at the Fargodome on Wednesday evening. The Deacons also will practice indoors today.
Shanley plays Grafton in the North Dakota Class 2A state championship game at 3 p.m. on Friday during the Dakota Bowl at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks.
Stasch suffered the injury during the second quarter of the No. 1-ranked Deacons 27-14 win over Beulah in the semifinals on Saturday at Sid Cichy Stadium. He did not return to the game following the injury.
“He has been in treatment taking care of it as best as he can,” Shanley head coach Rod Oksendahl said. “He had it X-rayed. There was no break.”
Stasch was held out of outdoor practices earlier in the week, but Oksendahl said more will be known of his status after the two practices at the Fargodome.
