Letter: Drunken driving a plague in NDI am not entirely surprised about the fact that North Dakota is leading the nation in drunken driving. During my time in the military, I have been stationed all around the country, and each locale and state that I have been in has far harsher punishments for drunken driving than North Dakota does. Perhaps it is time for mandatory capital punishment for all drunken drivers, whether it is their first time or their 10th time.
I am quite tired of hearing about how many times people get pulled over for DUIs and then go out and cause major damage to other people’s property, or worse, kill innocent people. Eliminating drunken drivers is the only solution that will have a rapid decline in the number of drunken driving incidents, both instilling the fear of God into people that are considering driving drunk, or by pure attrition. No appeals, no plea bargains, nothing.
One confirmed DUI should be the end of the road for the drunken driver.
