Letter: Children’s safety must come first

When was the last time you boarded a public bus and were made to sit on the floor? Apparently it is common practice in the West Fargo School District.

This morning, our daughter was told, “Sorry, we need a bigger bus” and was made to sit on the floor yet again as children threw food around the bus. Is there no common sense in our discipline these days? When I was growing up, if we would have thrown food, the bus would have been stopped and our parents would have been informed and a warning given that if the conduct continued, the bus privileges would be suspended. Never were we ever made to sit on the floor because there were no seats on the bus.

Aren’t there capacity regulations for buses? This is sick, an obvious safety hazard as well as a degrading practice. The school has been informed, and we will see if action is taken to correct this, but I felt it necessary to bring something affecting the safety of our children out in the open.
