Letter: Attacks on Berg’s plane are absurdCome on, Heidi Heitkamp. Enough of your personal attacks on Rick Berg. This time it (television ad) affects me.
I am a pilot, a physician in private practice (similar to Berg’s wife, Tracy) and a partner with Berg in a 1978 single-engine airplane. The ownership of the airplane is a business venture, thus we contribute our share to the maintenance costs and pay dearly for fuel along with the expense of meeting FAA regulations. Your ad depicting Berg in a multi-engine luxury liner is absurd. I have great respect for Berg as a businessman, entrepreneur, a caring politician and friend.
Sorry to explode your airplane myth, but there is no “free ride” here. Each partnership pays for its flight hours. By the way, this “business venture” also contributes to our economy by employing a charter pilot from time to time and by using Fargo Aircraft Maintenance to keep this older airplane flying. Not to mention the large number of jobs that make a vehicle like this a usable tool – from aluminum workers fabricating sheet metal for the wings to rubber manufacturers that supply the tires for the airplane when they need replacing plus many, many more.
Berg understands the far-reaching value of such an investment and is the “pilot” we need in Washington.
