Letter: Vote ‘no’ on Minn. marriage measureAbout 50 years ago, the civil rights movement was in full swing. People actively opposed the prospect of integration. At the time, some segregationists even claimed to be doing God’s work. Fortunately, after much struggle, we stopped depriving others of civil rights based on physical differences. The Minnesota Marriage Amendment has created similar civil discord.
The best day of my life was the day I got married. I cannot imagine voting to deprive others – others who are unique, perfect and worthy of respect – of the opportunity for this blessed union.
Let’s not teach our children to discriminate. All citizens deserve equal protection under the law, plain and simple. Be on the right side of history. Please, vote “no.”
