Pilot from ND dies in Central Texas plane crash into fieldSAN MARCOS, Texas — Investigators say a pilot has died in the crash of his twin-engine plane into a Central Texas field.
The Department of Public Safety says the accident happened around dawn Thursday in rural Caldwell County.
Trooper Robbie Barrera says the plane took off from San Marcos Municipal Airport and was attempting to return. A person who noticed a fireball reported the crash.
Airport spokesman Stephen Alexander says the Cessna apparently burned on impact about a mile south of the airport.
Authorities are trying to determine what caused the crash on land operated by the federal Gary Job Corps Center. Barrera says the area had fog Thursday morning.
DPS says the pilot from North Dakota was alone on board. His name hasn't been released.
San Marcos is 30 miles south of Austin.
