58 people arrested or cited as Moorhead police bust Halloween bashMOORHEAD – Police busted a Halloween costume party in Moorhead overnight, arresting 18 people and issuing citations to 40 others, mostly for underage drinking.
Most of the 18 people who were arrested and taken to the Clay County Jail were found hiding in the house after police obtained a warrant to search it, Sgt. Rob Matheson said.
Police found one partygoer hiding in a clothes dryer and about a dozen more in the attic of the house at 511 4th St. S., Matheson said.
As officers responded to the loud party complaint just before midnight, several partygoers took off running through the neighborhood. Some were apprehended, but others got away, Matheson said.
Some of the minors who were caught outside admitted to drinking at the party, Matheson said. Police tried to clear out the rest of the partygoers inside the house but were refused entry, at which point officers secured the house and obtained the warrant, he said. Clay County deputies assisted with the search.
Three people living in the house were cited for violating Moorhead’s social host ordinance, and one of them was arrested and taken to jail for obstructing, Matheson said.
Other charges pending against partygoers include fleeing police on foot, failure to disperse from a loud party and giving a false name and date of birth to police.
One partygoer also was taken to detox, said Matheson, who called the party “one of the biggest ones we’ve dealt with in a long time.”
