Area Red Cross volunteers in New Jersey to help prepare for Hurricane SandyFARGO – Five local American Red Cross volunteers traveled to the East Coast Saturday to help prepare that area for Hurricane Sandy.
They represent the Minn-Kota Region of the Red Cross and are from Fargo, Minot and Dickinson.
All flew from their respective cities to Tinton Falls, N.J., Saturday after receiving 12 hours’ notice, said Randy Johnson, chief executive officer of the Minn-Kota Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Johnson said there is the potential that eight to 10 additional volunteers may be asked to drive Red Cross vehicles from this area to the East Coast in the wake of the storm to provide food and water to people who will be cleaning up homes and neighborhoods.
