Letter: Do not cast vote for Rick Berg

I am not writing as a Republican or Democrat, but rather as a North Dakotan (someone who has lived and worked in North Dakota most of his life).

On the morning of May 8, 2006, I suffered a brainstem stroke as result of my work as a Fargo firefighter. I was initially picked up by workers’ compensation for full coverage benefits, but later I was denied. Since I was previously approved for coverage, my insurance would no longer approve me for benefits.

So my wife and co-workers met with my neighbor, North Dakota House Majority Leader Rick Berg, and he said there was nothing he could do for us. Then we met with the newly elected (at the time) Rep. Ed Gruchalla, and he helped us get our coverage reinstated with workers’ comp, with no help by Berg.

I am not going to tell you who to vote for, but I am comfortable in saying who you should not. Berg is not the person who will work for the little people, and I don’t think he is right for North Dakota. And just so you know, I do not know Heidi Heitkamp and have never met her.
