Pickup hits power pole in north Fargo

FARGO – A pickup lost control on a snowy road and smacked into a power pole, causing it to snap and fall onto the Ever-Green Conference Center on Saturday night, a police spokesman said.

The pickup, driven by James Stephen Flesher, 36, Fargo, was heading north on 27th Street North about 9 p.m. when it hit the pole, Sgt. Chris Helmick said.

The pole then fell onto the event center, also known as the Tupperware building, at 302 27th St. N., Helmick said.

A wedding reception at the building had to end as the center was evacuated for fire safety concerns, Helmick said.

There were no injuries reported to anyone in the building, Helmick said.

Flesher was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, Helmick said.

Two fire trucks responded to the scene, Assistant Fire Chief Leroy Skarloken said.

Xcel Energy was called to handle the live wires and maintain power to the area, Helmick said.
