Style Profile: Trendsetter mixes designer names with affordable labels
Ashlie O’Day, a buyer for O’Day Cache, uses the high-low concept in her wardrobe daily, and she does it well.
I spotted O’Day at O’Day Cache on a rainy Tuesday wearing a floral top and funky boots – the perfect antidotes to a dreary day.
What are you wearing? My faux-leather skirt, shirt and shoes are from Proper & Prim (her sister Teresa’s boutique), my blazer is from China, my jewelry is from O’Day Cache, and my watch is Cartier. It’s the most expensive thing in my closet.
Describe your style. It’s constantly evolving, but I always have a touch of classic. Trends can be fun. I say stick your personal style but make trends work for you.
What influences your style? I’ve been reading The Glamourai (a blog by designer-turned-stylist Kelly Framel). It has amazing photos and really great style. I also feel like you can find inspiration from anything.
Which celebrities have the best style? Nicole Richie is looking good these days. Olivia Palermo, Rihanna and Kelly Framel have amazing style, too. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s younger sister, Elizabeth, still has the Mary-Kate-and-Ashley-look, but it’s more relatable.
How has travel influenced your style? I was in India three times this year, and the use of color and metallics is really great. I like Diana Vreeland’s (famed fashion editor) quote, “Pink is the navy blue of India.”
What’s your favorite travel destination? Istanbul. It’s an ancient-cool city. It’s where East meets West.
What are you going to be for Halloween? I’m going to a party as Cleopatra. I bought a black wig, and I’ll stack on gold jewelry I already have at home and pile on kohl eyeliner. Done!
My favorite costume I had was when I was Tippi Hedren from The Birds. I hot glued black ravens to my mint shift dress and headband. I still have it in my closet just in case.
