Fargo North's Walton commits to NDSU wrestlingFARGO – Fargo North senior Tommy Walton followed his instinct that was developed at a young age. He always wanted to be a Division I wrestler, and on Thursday, he took the first step in making that dream come true.
He verbally committed to North Dakota State and will sign a letter of intent during the early signing period that starts Nov. 14.
“I want to give D-I a shot and see what it’s like,” Walton said. “I’ve always pictured myself wrestling Division I. As I got older, I considered other options, but I stayed with it.”
Walton won a North Dakota state title at 106 pounds last year and was runner-up at 103 two years ago. He also excelled in the USA Wrestling tournament, finishing runner-up in the Cadet Greco-Roman division two years ago.
Walton said he also considered Concordia College and Minnesota State Moorhead. His father, Steve Walton, is a former Bison wrestler.
