Spuds cross country teams advance to state

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Moorhead boys and girls cross country teams each qualified for the state meet next month after earning top-two finishes at the Minnesota Class 2A, Section 8 meet on Thursday.

The Spuds girls won with 80 points, edging second-place Willmar by three.

Mallori Johnson led the Moorhead girls with a sixth-place finish among individuals. She clocked a time of 15 minutes, 12.3 seconds.

On the boys side, Ezra Olson finished in second place among individuals as the Moorhead boys earned a second-place finish. Bemidji won with 59 points, while the Spuds had 73. Olson had a time of 16:45.2, which was nearly 13 seconds behind first-place Sam Carlson of Bemidji.

The boys and girls state meet is Nov. 3 at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn. Results are in the Scoreboard
