Letter: ‘Yes’ on saving a cornerstone

The Minnesota Marriage Amendment debate has been controversial to say the least. A recent letter to the editor indicates the Catholic Church has shown little compassion or community toward gay members. This is so untrue. The Catholic Church’s effort to support God’s unchanging plan for marriage is not a campaign against anyone. On the contrary, it lovingly defends the dignity of all people including those with same-sex attraction.

The Catholic Church sees God’s true plan for marriage as a reflection of the holy family, a model that fosters a love that goes far beyond mere sexuality. The institution of marriage is the cornerstone of our society. If we focus on God, we will see through the surface issues to what’s really at stake.

Marriage is the sacred union of one man and one woman. No one has the right to redefine it. Vote “yes” on Nov. 6.
