Rude awakening: Casselton warning sirens misfire at 10:30 p.m.

CASSELTON, N.D. – A repair crew is on the way here today to find out why emergency sirens inexplicably went off Tuesday night.

Around 10:30 p.m., residents heard the tone of emergency sirens ringing throughout the city with no explanation.

Public works crews were able to silence the sirens by manually disabling the siren.

Casselton Auditor Sheila Klevgard said in an email to residents that the siren is designed to emit a different tone based on the type of emergency, which is why last night’s tone is not one heard before.

Klevgard said today that a repair crew was en route to the city and she expects work to be finished by Thursday.

“Hopefully after that we'll know what the issue was,” Klevgard said.
