Letter: Feeding the culture of cynicism, mistrustI’m genuinely surprised that a story about Rep. Collin Peterson, D-Minn., expressing a view about an organization that chose not to endorse him made front-page news.
People of all political stripes regularly refer to organizations and ideas with which they disagree as “extremist.” Big deal. Even though Peterson has a nearly 100 percent anti-abortion voting record (demonstrating he obviously cares about the issue), perhaps he has a legitimate moral reason for holding this particular view.
Regardless, secretly recording people is extraordinarily inelegant. Doing so perpetuates a cynical political culture of mistrust and is a kind of behavior that seems to be inconsistent with Concordia’s stated mission of “being responsibly engaged in the world.”
