Fargo South, West Fargo to play playoff games at Fargodome this FridayFARGO – It turns out the Fargodome will host a North Dakota high school football game this fall. Two of them, as a matter of fact.
An unfavorable weather forecast has led to the relocation of the home Class 3A playoff games for Fargo South and West Fargo. Both quarterfinal games will now be played under the roof of the Fargodome on Friday.
No. 3-ranked and No. 1 East Region seed Fargo South (7-2) will play No. 4 West Region seed Dickinson (3-6) at 4:30 p.m. That game will be followed by No. 2 East Region seed West Fargo (6-3) playing No. 3 West Region seed Minot (7-2) at 7:30 p.m.
Both South and West Fargo originally planned to host the playoff games at their own fields, but with WDAY-TV weather forecasts calling for rain showers Wednesday and Thursday as well a high of 36 degrees and wind on Friday, it forced officials at both schools to look for a Plan B.
“We thought it might be nicer to go inside,” West Fargo activities director Curt Jones said.
Jones said he called Fargodome general manager Rob Sobolik to inquire about moving the games indoors.
“If the Dome wasn’t available, then obviously we wouldn’t have gone in, but sometimes you get lucky and there is nothing booked in there,” Jones said. “And sometimes you don’t and you are outside in bad weather.”
Jones and Fargo South activities director Cory Lehman teamed up on the relocation effort. After getting clearance from the opposing schools’ ADs and coaches as well as the North Dakota High School Activities Association, Jones and Lehman decided to play it safe and move indoors.
