Annual ND pheasant hunt to help ND town nearly destroyed by wildfire

BUCYRUS, N.D. — An annual pheasant and grouse hunt that benefits the Bismarck Cancer Center also is helping residents of a small North Dakota town nearly wiped out by a wildfire.

The "Hunting Dakota with Roosevelt" event brings together North Dakota military personnel, cancer survivors and others. Last year, the hunt raised nearly $100,000 for the center.

The Dickinson Press reports that this year, the hunt's banquet in Medora also included an auction with the proceeds going to victims of last week's fire in Bucyrus. The town with about two dozen residents lost four homes to the Wednesday fire.

Lemmon, S.D.-based Dakota Plains Federal Credit Union also has set up a relief fund for the Adams County town near the South Dakota border.
