Letter: Berg’s charges blatantly false

I continue to be amazed at what Republican candidates continue to get away with these days. Rick Berg makes a charge repeatedly in ads and in his recent debate with Heidi Heitkamp that she would support cutting more than $700 billion from Medicare.

First, Heitkamp has never voted on a bill like this.

Second, every fact-checker on the planet says the $700 billion in question is not a cut to seniors’ benefits but a savings that will prolong the life of Medicare.

Third, Berg and nearly every Republican in both the U.S. Senate and U.S. House voted for the exact same savings in a Republican budget.

Yet Berg (and Mitt Romney) continues to use this blatantly false charge. If they use it enough, do they think we’ll believe it? Is their respect for the average voter that low?
