The Humane Society of Fargo-Moorhead has won the $1,000 state prize for North Dakota in the third round of voting in the Animal Rescue Site’s 2012 $300,000 Shelter Challenge, together with Petfinder.com.
Alex Stern Foundation announces grant awards
The Alex Stern Family Foundation, Fargo, has awarded $277,955 in grants to area organizations.
The grants were awarded to:
Cass County Extension 4-H, $2,500 for Teen Connection; Charism, $5,000 for Living, Learning and Leading project; Children’s Dental Services, Concordia College, $5,000 for dental care for low income children in Moorhead; Daily Bread, $10,000 for the Backpack Program; F-M Coalition for Homeless Persons, $705 to conduct a survey of homeless youth in Fargo-Moorhead; Family Healthcare Center, Fargo, $50,000 for integrating behavioral health into primary care;
F-M Chamber Chorale, $1,000 for general operating support; F-M Opera, $10,000 matching grant for general operating support; HERO, $3,500 to purchase a forklift; Humane Society, $1,750 to purchase 25 pet oxygen masks to distribute to local fire departments; Impact Foundation, $30,000 for general operating support; Junior Achievement, $1,000 for an elementary classroom project.
Lend-A-Hand, $5,000 for program sponsor; Moorhead Community and Technical College Foundation and the North Dakota State School of Science Alumni Foundation, each $7,500 for scholarships for students from Cass and Clay counties; Red River Children’s Advocacy Center, $5,000 for general operating support; Sharehouse, $5,000 for beds and mattresses; Venture Youth Alliance, $5,000 for general operating support; TNT Kid’s Fitness, $25,000 for capital campaign; YMCA, $5,000 for summer camp scholarships; and YWCA, $10,000 for general operating support.
The foundation awards grants to nonprofit groups within Fargo-Moorhead only and are not available to individuals or endowments. The foundation grant deadlines are March 31 and Aug. 31. Applications can be obtained by mailing a request to 4152 30th Ave. S., No. 102, Fargo, ND 58104.
Jasper’s raises funds for music memorial fund
Jasper’s Jubilee Theater, Park Rapids, Minn., recently hosted a fundraiser for the Dee (Hilde) Johnson Music Memorial Fund to assist the fund in reaching its initial endowment fund goal.
The memorial fund will award scholarships and grants to people, programs, projects or organizations in the Park Rapids, Ulen and Hitterdal, Minn., areas which will improve the local quality of life through music.
MSCTC receives $10K for Sperling scholarship
Minnesota State Community and Technical College Foundation has received a $10,000 matching donation from an anonymous donor.
The funds are to match donations to the Dan Sperling Memorial Scholarship Fund. Sperling was a counselor at MSCTC and an advocate for less fortunate students.
Ronald McDonald House receives paint donation
Benjamin Moore Paints has donated more than 144 gallons of paint valued at more than $12,000 to the Ronald McDonald House of the Red River Valley in Fargo for paint makeovers of the two houses at 1234 Broadway and 1330 18th Ave. S.
Fargo Glass and Paint handled all of the paint tinting for the project and staff from CoreLink Administrative Solutions donated their time to help paint the rooms.
