Thursday review: Gadget offers quick, healthy breakfast
When my sister clued me in on her new favorite breakfast gadget that had her and her three young kids getting out the door faster, I dropped by my neighborhood Target that very day to pick one up for myself.
Nordic Ware’s Microwave Eggs ’n Muffin Breakfast Pan has made breakfast a priority again.
In the time it takes to pull out a frying pan, spray with olive oil and heat it up, my eggs are cooked via the microwave into a perfect patty, and the heavy-duty plastic Nordic Ware pan is in the dishwasher.
I originally scoffed at the idea of microwave eggs; let’s be honest, they sound really gross. But a quick scramble and about 45 seconds in the microwave produces creamy, fluffy results.
Simply spritz the bottom of the pan with some non-stick spray and add an egg or two, bacon, ham or even veggies. Give it a quick scramble, and put it in the microwave for 45 to 60 seconds.
I top my eggs with some cheese, avocado or fresh herbs and enjoy with a slice of whole-wheat toast (which takes longer to make than the eggs). You can also pair the egg patty with an English muffin for an at-home, less fast-food version of an Egg McMuffin.
The plastic pan is BPA- and melamine-free, according to the NordicWare website.
I bought mine for less than $5 at Target, but it can also be ordered straight from www.NordicWare.com.
Bottom line: Despite my skepticism over microwaved eggs, this gadget is my go-to for a protein-packed breakfast in less than a minute.
