Rural grass fire burns 160 acres, no homesHAWLEY, Minn. – Officials are investigating a grass fire near here that consumed nearly 160 acres on Tuesday afternoon.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said an improperly discarded cigarette may be to blame for the fire, which burned for hours around County Highway 32.
The flames started on a piece of U.S. Fish and Wildlife land and did not reach any homes or other buildings. The blaze was put out and reduced to some smoldering hot spots by Tuesday evening.
