Few young fish in Missouri River system in ND

BISMARCK — An annual fall survey shows few young fish in the Missouri River system in North Dakota.

Scott Gangl with the state Game and Fish Department says the survey catch at Lake Sakakawea was poor for most species including walleye, especially considering 4 million were stocked this year.

Gangl says the reservoir wasn't very productive this year because of a rapid drop in elevation. He also says the Missouri River from Garrison Dam to Lake Oahe showed few young game fish.

On the bright side, Game and Fish says Devils Lake once again had "exceptional" numbers of young walleye. Gangl says Devils Lake continues to be "a walleye factory."
