Voters to decide Clay County races

Voters in rural Clay County will decide only a few contested races on Nov. 6.

Those races along with candidates’ names, ages, hometowns and occupations are as follows (* denotes an incumbent):

• Hawley City Council (two seats): *Stacy Riedberger, 54, Hawley, dairy frozen manager for Sunmart Foods in Fargo; *C.J. Holl, 53, Hawley, business owner; Benjamin Gunkelman, 32, Hawley, high school science teacher.

• Glyndon City Council (one seat) : *Kimberly S. Savageau, 32, Glyndon, deputy recorder for Clay County; Chris Jenson, 31, Glyndon, vice president of Nardini Fire Equipment in Fargo; Joe Olson, 31, Glyndon, building maintenance worker for Clay County.

• Ulen mayor: Nicholas Theis, 32, Ulen, locked-out employee of American Crystal Sugar; Randy Zimmerman, 48, farm business management instructor with Northland Technical Community College in Thief River Falls. He also farms.

• District 5 Soil and Water supervisor: Jerry Janssen, 52, Barnesville, farmer; Joel Hildebrandt, 51, Hawley, co-founder and owner of High Tail Ranch and Rescue and a driver for Wayne Transports.

District 5 covers Hawley, Eglon, Skree, Parke, Humboldt and Tamsem townships. Supervisors meet monthly to discuss the business of the SWCD, including state grant allocations to landowners, district conservation priorities, coordination with other local units of government and state agencies, and legislative priorities.
