Letter: Lobbyists own Rep. Rick Berg

In his race for the U.S. Senate, there are a couple of things Congressman Rick Berg doesn’t mention.

First, he and his Republican cohorts in the House of Representatives have about a 10 percent approval rating. And there is a reason for that: They have accomplished nothing other than wasting time playing political games and trying to destroy the Obama presidency.

Second, Berg signed on to the Grover Norquist pledge never to raise taxes. In effect, he has forfeited North Dakota’s House seat to a Washington lobbyist. This means that it is completely pointless to have Berg in Washington. Since he is simply a rubber stamp for lobbyists (and the tea party), he could just email his votes in and save the taxpayers a boatload of money.

The lavish politician lifestyle he enjoys at our expense could be eliminated and it would not make one bit of difference in terms of what he is accomplishing. Berg may try to paint his opponent, Heidi Heitkamp, as a rubber stamp for Obama, but he already has a proven record as a rubber stamp for Washington lobbyists.
