Julie Bruhn, a registered nurse and the associate director for patient care at the VA Health Care System, Fargo, has received the North Dakota Nurses Association Excellence in Administration award.
The award was presented to Bruhn for her knowledge in nursing research, effectiveness as a leader and teacher, and her influence on the practice of nursing.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing at the College of St. Scholastica, Duluth, Minn., and a master’s degree in nursing at the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks. Bruhn began her career with the VA in 1979.
Clark recognized with Good Neighbor Award
Randy Clark of Park Co. Realtors, Fargo, has received the North Dakota Association of Realtors Good Neighbor Award, which recognizes Realtors for their efforts in community and charitable service.
Clark was honored for his volunteer efforts with the Fargo-Moorhead Challengers, a baseball league for children ages 5-18 with special needs.
Peltier appointed to ag grant program board
Keith Peltier, president and general manager of Proseed, Harvey, N.D., has been appointed to the North Dakota Department of Commerce Agricultural Products Utilization Commission board.
APUC administers grant programs for research and development of North Dakota agricultural products.
Kleingartner a top producer in August
Doug Kleingartner, Fargo, was one of the top five producers of new commercial and personal lines insurance for Farmers Union Insurance during August.
The company has 96 agents in North Dakota.
Fredrikson & Byron attorneys recognized
Three attorneys with the Fredrikson & Byron law firm in Fargo have been selected as Great Plains Super Lawyers.
Kristy L. Albrecht was recognized in the area of employment and labor; Jon E. Strinden, mergers and acquisitions; and Todd E. Zimmerman, business litigation.
Selections for the annual rating service are made using a statewide survey of lawyers, an independent research evaluation of candidates and peer reviews by practice area.
Serkland attorneys named in Best Lawyers
Serkland Law Firm attorney Ronald H. McLean has been named the Best Lawyers’ 2013 Fargo Labor and Employment Litigation Lawyer of the Year. Attorney Maureen Holman has been named the Best Lawyers’ 2013 Fargo Family Law Lawyer of the Year.
Four Serkland attorneys have been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America 2013 in their respective practice areas. The attorneys are:

Marcil, arbitration, mediation, personal injury litigation and product liability litigation; McLean, bet-the-company litigation, commercial litigation, construction litigation, labor and employment litigation, mergers and acquisitions litigation and municipal litigation; Roger J. ND optometrists elect new officers for board
The North Dakota Optometric Association has elected officers for its 2013 board of directors. Those elected are:
Taya Patzman, Bismarck Eyecare, president; Paul Dunderland, Family Vision Center, Bottineau, president-elect; Blaine Burdick, 20/20 Eye Care, Devils Lake, vice president; Amy Mitzel DuBois, Pearle Vision, Fargo, secretary-treasurer; and Todd Metzger; Essentia Health, Fargo, past president.
West Fargo VFW named an All-American post
The Arthur W. Jones VFW Post 7564 in West Fargo has been recognized as a VFW All-American Post by National Past Commander-in-Chief Richard DeNoyer of Massachusetts.
Past Post Commander Craig Johnson and Post Quartermaster Bill Tuff were also honored for their leadership accomplishments.
The post was commended for participation in all of the VFW programs as well as membership gains and for promoting citizenship, youth activities and programs including Voice of Democracy, Patriots Pen, Scouting and hunter safety.
AAF ND elects officers, board members
The American Advertising Federation of North Dakota has elected officers and board members for 2012-2013. Those elected are:
Tracy Konickson, WDAY, president; Melissa Huntermeister, Minnesota State Community and Technical College, first vice president; Shannon Luney, Sundog, second vice president; Brian Jorvig, Ironclad Marketing, treasurer; Heidi Knutson, Western State Bank, secretary; and Brad Clemenson, North Dakota State University, ex-officio.
New directors are: Adam Wieman, Sundog; Jesse Myers, Flint Communications; and Janelle Berge, Trollwood Performing Arts.
Directors serving second terms are: Justin Eiler, Eide Bailly; Tina Flach, Titan Machinery-SRC; Sonya Goergen, NDSU; and Jason Jacobson, Sundog.
Alecia Hupperts, Minnesota State University Moorhead, will serve as a student liaison.
F-M builders group earns national award
The National Association of Home Builders has recognized the Home Builders Association of Fargo-Moorhead with the 2011 NAHB Cup for outstanding membership achievement.
The award annually recognizes the home builders association that achieves the highest combined ranking in membership growth and retention in the country.
The group also received the award in 2005 and 2010.
Fargo Soroptimists elect board of directors
Soroptimist International of Fargo has elected new members to its board of directors. Those elected are:
Trudy Wanner, director (one year); Alice Marx-Kuehn, director (two years); Gail Brunette. secretary; Cindy Thrall, corresponding secretary; Grace Backman, treasurer; Jenny Erickson, vice president; and Stephanie Sarabakhsh, president.

Jessica Shawn of Discovery Benefits, Fargo, has been elected as a new member of the board at FirstLink.
Two Moorhead golf pros recognized
Russ Nelson and Corey Herlickson have been honored by the PGA Dakota Chapter (Minnesota Section).
Nelson, the golf professional at Village Green, Moorhead, for the past 29 years, was named the Junior Golf Leader of the Year.
Herlickson, the golf professional at The Meadows, Moorhead, for seven years, received the Facility Promoter of the Year award.
Ankers named a Great Plains Super Lawyer
Alisha Ankers has been named as a Great Plains Super Lawyer for 2012.
Ankers is a graduate of the University of North Dakota School of Law, Grand Forks, and has practiced law in North Dakota and Minnesota for more than 20 years.
Her law practice in Fargo offers services focusing on family law issues.
Hanna appointed to Boys & Girls Club board
The Boys & Girls Club of the Red River Valley/Youth Commission has appointed Steve Hanna to its board of directors.
Hanna has been employed at Dakota Dunafon for the past 33 years and manages Taco Bell restaurants in Fargo, Moorhead, Grand Forks and Aberdeen, S.D.
