‘Warm, fuzzy’ words deceptiveThe “warm and fuzzy” deceptive wording of Measure 5 as it appears on the North Dakota ballot camouflages the future negative effect that this measure will have for pet owners, farmers, ranchers and hunters. If passed, the mandate of the law to punish offenders will do little to protect animals and will delay the collective effort of those working to establish meaningful protective legislation to encompass all animals.
Out-of-state special interest groups that initiated and finance this measure have an agenda to eliminate pet ownership and hunting as well as curtail livestock production throughout the United States. Allowing this to occur disregards our free choice to have pets, enjoy nature’s bounty and select from a variety of healthy animal products in the grocery store.
With a “no” vote North Dakota residents have the opportunity to defeat a craftily designed measure that is dangerous to our future lifestyles. Measure 5 does not jive.
