Heitkamp, Romney agree

With all the partisan yelling about health care reform, some points about the Affordable Care Act/”Obamacare” haven’t had the attention they deserve.

Republican Mitt Romney has stressed the importance of keeping certain aspects of this law in place. He wants pre-existing conditions to be covered by insurance, as required under the ACA. And he wants parents with insurance to be able to include their young adult offspring in the family plan, until they turn 26. Democrat Heidi Heitkamp agrees with both those approaches.

Heitkamp has a strong history of working with people across party lines to get things done. Rick Berg, on the other hand, has a record of voting with his House party leaders regardless of the issue. That’s what he did when he approved the Ryan budget that whacked away at the best farm bill this state has ever had!

Then Berg realized that, even in our Republican state, sometimes people here do not agree with his party’s extreme ideologues. By then, it’s too late. Berg pretends he was on the right side of North Dakota all along, even as he just watches the farm bill wither away on the vine.

We need a leader who will do what’s right, regardless of her political party. This is why we need Heitkamp in the U.S. Senate.
