Rep. Berg not there for ND young people

Rep. Rick Berg, R-N.D., has a clear record in the U.S. House of failing to support young people, and that record hardly makes him worthy of a promotion.

Berg failed to get a farm bill out of the House, jeopardizing farming for future generations of North Dakotans. He also supported the Ryan budget plan, which threatens to slash Pell grants, which help low-income students pay for college. Berg would rather cut taxes for himself and other millionaires than invest in North Dakota’s farmers and college students.

Berg has also voted to repeal the entire Affordable Care Act, which lets me and other young people stay on our parents’ health insurance until we’re 26. This provision of the law is a huge help to young people, and Berg’s votes to repeal it show an utter disregard for our well-being.

Heidi Heitkamp supports policies that are fair for all North Dakotans, and will help young people in our state. The balanced budget amendment she supports would ensure we don’t inherit massive government debt, and her support for the farm bill shows she understands how important agriculture is to our future. For young people, Heitkamp is the obvious choice.
