InDepth: Domestic Violence | YWCA Cass Clay chosen to participate in national Purple Purse campaignFARGO – The YWCA Cass Clay has been chosen as one of 14 YWCAs from across the U.S. to participate in the Purple Purse program for Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
“Out of 250 organizations, they selected 14, and we’re one of those,” says YWCA Cass Clay Executive Director Erin Prochnow. “We’re fortunate.”
The Allstate Foundation’s national Purple Purse campaign is designed to encourage open discussion of the problem and to empower victims to break free from abusive relationships.
This month, the Fargo-based YWCA Cass Clay will be passing along 10 Purple Purses to family and friends. Each time one is registered online, $10 will be donated to the YWCA Cass Clay, up to $10,000.
If you don’t receive a Purple Purse, you can still get involved by passing a “virtual purse,” which submits a $5 donation to the YWCA USA. The Allstate Foundation will donate up to $175,000.
As of noon Friday, more than 14,000 purses had been passed and more than $137,000 had been raised nationwide, according to PurplePurse.com.
“There’s no doubt in my mind that our community would be willing to help us, and I certainly hope they are,” Prochnow says.
