Hot Topics: Student told to leave classroom for wearing Romney shirt

A Philadelphia teenager says she was humiliated when her geometry teacher told her to remove the Mitt Romney/Paul Ryan T-shirt she was wearing in class.

Samantha Pawlucy, a 16-year-old sophomore at Charles Carroll High School, said the teacher compared it to “wearing a KKK shirt” and told her to leave the classroom.

“She told me to take off my shirt and said that she has another one if I need one,” Samantha said. “I didn’t know what to think. I didn’t think it was right at all.”

The teen’s parents requested a meeting with the teacher and the school’s principal, where the teacher apologized and said she meant the statement as a joke.

“It was funny to her, but I was really embarrassed,” Samantha said.

A spokesperson for the Philadelphia School District told NBCPhiladelphia.com that the teacher was transferred to another classroom as the district investigates the incident.
